Stop Dithering
As a life coach and tutor, I meet many people who don’t know where to start, when they consider making changes. Change can be difficult but I bet you sabotage yourself before you even begin. I agree that change can be daunting and it’s easier to leave it until another day. With this in mind I want to share some coaching with you and help kick start your success.
First think of a change you want to make?
For example I will look at changing job.
What’s stopping you from making the change?
· No jobs out there that you want
· I don’t know what I want to do
· Not enough skills/qualifications
· People better qualified than you will get the job
· Lack of confidence
Now come up with solutions
· Regularly check internet and papers for jobs
· Send for job applications
· Send a speculative letter and CV to the companies that you do want to work for
· Use your networking skills. Tell trusted friends and colleagues you are looking for a change of job. They may know of a suitable job
· If you have a skill that people need, become self employed
· If you don’t know what to do. Look to your hobbies and interests to see if there is a possible career path there
· Remember you wanted to be a ballet dancer/ astronaut when you were younger. What about a job in these related industries?
· Qualifications and skills, everything can be learnt. Open university, distance learning, local college...
· Now let’s tackle the low self esteem and confidence levels. This is the self sabotage, negative thinking. You have to believe in yourself. Spend some time thinking about the things that have gone well for you. This may be your personal life, hobbies, family and friends. Your confidence will also rise as you gain more skills or experience in your chosen field. Think about volunteering, offering your time and skills for free. This looks excellent on a CV.
· REMEMBER:- You can asked a friend, family member, a colleague you trust or even a life coach for help and ideas
NOW STOP THE DITHERING!
Once you have gone through the steps I have suggested, pick one of the solutions that you have come up with and commit to carrying it out. Make sure you have put a time limit, make it a week or two, this will help you begin your change and help you get started.
